Claudia Montalvo
Choral Director
Biography
Claudia Montalvo, born and raised in Valencia, Spain, began her musical journey young in a family of musicians. She studied classical piano, music theory, and choir for eight years at the Jose Iturbi Conservatory, where she participated in concerts, master classes (including one with Lang Lang), and earned third place in a piano competition.
From an early age, Claudia loved both singing and piano. Her first recording, at age two, was an impromptu jam session in her father’s studio. By age four, she recorded her first cover, singing the Spanish version of Everybody Wants to Be a Cat from The Aristocats.
In 2016, Claudia and her family launched Els Frikis i La Xata Merenguera, a project that reimagined Valencia’s children’s songs in styles like R&B, rap, and jazz. The album culminated in a live performance sponsored by the city’s mayor.
Moving to Miami in 2017, Claudia joined her high school’s dance team and rock ensemble, volunteered in recording studios, and worked on theater productions. Her passion for acting led her to roles including a lead part in Enredos y Traiciones at the Miami Dade County Auditorium.
Claudia earned an AA in Music Education from Miami Dade College, later pursuing jazz studies at FIU. As an FIU student, she served as Historian and RSO Representative for NAfME, organizing fundraisers and initiating collaborations for student events. She graduated in December 2023 with a BA in Music Education and a Music Business Certificate, recognized as one of FIU’s Outstanding Graduates.
